If you are using a plastic container with a lid you will need to drill some holes in it. On the lid drill some ½ holes all around the lid, and the container bottom drill some ¼ holes for drainage plus along the top edge drill some holes.
The temperature is important if they get to cold they will not eat and breed well for you, on the other hand if they get to hot they will suffer from it as well. The best temperature is from 65 to 75 degrees they will do great at theses temperatures. If you have just a small batch of worms you can raise them in a basement or spare room were the temperature will be around 70 to 75 degrees.
Food – How to worm compost
Worms will eat almost anything but the best food for them is manure from {rabbits, horse & cows} they will eat and breed well from this alone. Along with the manure you can add yard waist like grass clippings and leaves from trees along with paper waist like newsprint and cardboard. You can also feed them coffee grounds, tea bags kitchen waist from veggies and even paper towels and the cardboard tubes that the towels come with. Never add meat and fish waist along with cheese , peppers, and acid type foods oranges, grapefruits.
